After a long time in my wishlist, I finally manage to get it along with the first expansion pack. This is an awesome game to play with friends. The rules are intimidating at first but once you give it a try 1 or 2 games, it becomes very simple actually.
- Game Overview
The objective of 7 Wonders is to collect most victory points. The concept of the game is about building a civilization of your city and through that you’d obtain victory point. There 3 ages in the game and the game ends when the 3rd age finishes. Then victory points will be computed to get the game winner.
- Purchase Detail
Got this from BoardGame Rejuvenate. Together with the first expansion, I think it costs me about almost S$100 before the 10% off discount from membership. I can’t remember the exact price.
- Rating: 10/10
This is definitely my most favorite board game so far. I love the concept, the artwork and the gameplay. There are also many varieties to your game and different strategies you can play depending what city you get. Couple with the 2 expansions, there are just so much you can do with the game. And I enjoy the interaction the game provides. This is probably the first game I’ve played where you really need to pay attention to what your neighbors are doing, what they build, what they own etc… Love it!
- Complexity: 6/10
The rule book does make it sounds quite complex but if you watch any review of this game, people will tell the same thing. It sound complicated and it also looks complicated but the truth is it’s not. You just need to give it 1 or 2 game to understand that it’s not complicated. With that said, it’s probably not a game for casual player where they need something easily learnt and easily played.
- Luck : 5/10
I think the only luck part that involves in this game is from the shuffling of card. Which city you end up getting, which structure card you get during the play and what your neighbors are getting. However, luck only affect you to certain level. I think your strategy in the game play a more important role in getting you points. So unless you get a really really bad cards for your city, you can still strategize your game to win with the cards you get. Hence, I don’t rate give it a lot of luck rating because I truly believe can strategize to score and win despite your poor luck.
- Replay Value: 9/10
I’m giving this 9/10 because I’ve played the game and currently there are 2 awesome expansions which I think give the game a lot of varieties. So with the core game and the 2 expansions, your game will be more or less different everytime. The replay-ability is very high as there are a lot of different way you can go.
- Strategy: 7/10
I don’t think you have to spend a lot of brain power on this but you still have to pick your best approach to how you want to build your city and get points. On top of that, you have to really really observe your neightbor and downplay them so they are not able to accumulate as much victory points. It sounds very simple but it’s quite a lot to take in at the same time during the game if you’re not a very serious player.
Currently there’re 2 expansion release for this game Leaders (2011) and Cities (2012).
I haven’t gotten my set of Cities expansion yet but I more or less know what is the expansion adding to the game and I can’t wait to play all of them together!

My original intention was to just get Qwirkle but I had two $10 voucher and 1 item only allowed usage of 1 voucher. So I had to get another game. I wanted to grab Carcassonne but it wasn’t in stock. So yeah, somehow I just grabbed this. I had absolutely no idea what the game is about. All I know it’s something about Lord of the Rings which I love and it’s a card game.
- Game Overview
This game is basically a strategy questing adventure co-op card game. As the name sounds, the game is more or less about Lord of the Ring and the game object is basically to complete your quest as your adventure through Middle Earth.
- Purchase Details
I got this at BoardGame Rejuvenate for S$44 original price is S$60 but with my membership, I got %10 off and also the $10 voucher mentioned above.
- Genre: Fantasy
- My Rating: —
I can’t rate this yet. As I haven’t really thoroughly played it. Having a hard time absorbing all the rules and instruction.
- Complexity: 9/10
From my personal opinion that is. For the first time, I had a read a rule book so thick. There’s so much rules and stuff. And before you can even absorb the original rules, they keep intimidating you by tell you that there’s expansion for this expansion for that. Then each round of play there are like 7 major phase which is broken up into small steps. Also there are a bunch of rules to observed. This game is meant for serious play. No place for casual player.
- Luck: 5/10
I’m probably not a good judge of luck level. But basically, this game the part that involves luck is what are the ability, allies, or items you get from the shuffle deck (as usual for most of the card games) and what monster you end up encountering during your quest. If you get good attack cards and meet lousy monsters, then it’s a breeze otherwise you would have to rack your brain and strategize to win.
- Strategy: 8/10
I’ve not really played this game seriously but I think there are a lot strategizing involved. Doing the right preparation, managing your risk wisely, and play the right tactic for the battle. You’d really have to rack your brain and take in all the rules and attributes of the cards, the monster cards, your threat level and your quest progress… So yes 8.
- Replay Value: 8/10
I give it an 8 because if you have more cards (from the expansion) and more quest cards (also from the expansion pack), you would a lot of possibilities of how things can go and also you have the hero cards which gives different attributes. So you can choose different heroes for this game. I think 8 might not even do this game justice for replay rating. But since I don’t own a large enough expansion pack to fully grasp the variety of the game.

I realize I haven’t be writing any game post for along time. Well, the reason is fairly simple. I don’t really have much time to play many games nowadays. FIFA 13 and PES 2013 is probably the latest hype for me after Diablo III. I don’t play a lot of sport game. Football is probably 1 of the my few favorite sport games along par with NFS and NBA. I’ve stopped NFS and NBA for quite some years back after I lost track of it. So yeah PES is currently the only sport games I’m playing and still love playing.
Anyway, back to the topic. I’ve been playing Winning Eleven and PES as far as I could remember. I think since like Winning Eleven 2006. So FIFA has always been alien to me. I tried it a few times but somehow, I just couldn’t get used to it (in a short time that I tried). So yeah I always ended up back to WE / PES. However, in recent few years, I’ve been so torn in deciding whether switch to FIFA. When PES 2010, I didn’t like it. It took me awhile to get used to it and switched from 2009. So yeah, that was already 2011 and they are using a new engine. So when I gave 2011 a try, I totally hate it. I couldn’t even bother to make the switch. Hence, I more or less skip 2011 and keep playing 2010. During that time, I would take the time and effort to find and download the new kits, later transfers, and update to latest stats than switching to 2011. So then PES 2012 came out, I got a better. Not as much as I hoped for, but definitely better and more playable. So yes, recently I decided to move on from 2010 after some thought and some testing and practice on the 2012. Anyway, by then, a lot of people were switching to FIFA but I guess I was just too loyal or too lazy. Either one.
Not long after the switch, PES 2013 and FIFA 13 released. So then I was thinking if I should buy PES 2013. But after reading the review I got so turned down. I mean PES 2012 already have a set of flaws that for some reason I manage to adapt to it and live with it (probably coz I’ve just been playing this franchise for too long) but still I would, expect them to actually make improvement or a comeback in 2013 which apparently doesn’t sound so. Then after a few recommendations from my peers and 1 of which is my senior who I used to love playing the game with, I decide it’s about time I make the switch. With that, I bought FIFA 13. Well, until now I still couldn’t appreciate how is FIFA 13 better than PES because truth to be told, I’m still struggling with the menu, settings and everything. It’s just not that easy when you’ve been used to sth for like almost 10 years and suddenly switching over to something else at this age. So yeah, I’ll probably would only find that out when I’ve become comfortable with the game.
Saboteur is not a board game. It’s a card game. Well, this game was introduced to me by my housemate. It was quite nice but I didn’t like it that much. I think this is because when I introduced it to my other friends they always play idiotically, for the lack of a nicer term. When I played with my housemate they played it like bridge. Seriously. You’re supposed to figuring things out as the game unfold and play your game strategically. The main part and fun of the game is you figuring out who’s your fiend and who’s your foe. However, when I play with my other friends they didn’t give sh*t about the gold or winning the game. Instead all the cared was if you’re miner, make sure help each other find out who’s the saboteur and make sure the saboteur don’t win… and if you’re a saboteur, yeah just make sure you win.
Then they always say play for fun play for fun. What the fun in playing a game that has the a winning object and you can’t careless if you win or lose and refuse to use your brain? I guess probably, I’m too geeky about this kinda stuff. But seriously, I don’t like playing with people like that. sighzzz…. This is why I like my brothers. Anyway, I only played Saboteur but I also see there is Saboteur 2. I thought it’s the 2nd version of the game but apparently it’s the the expansion pack for Saboteur. So yeah I grabbed both together from Bogas.
Total never heard of this game before. Got as birthday present. Free board game! how cool. I debut the game with my housemate, it was very entertaining and exciting. The objective of the game is basically to kill Dr. Lucky. It’s played using cards so you can kill by playing a series of card but of course it’s won’t easy. You have to be alone with him out of other player’s sight to kill. And when you make your murder attempt other player can prevent you from killing him too.
Though it can be played up to 7 people, the recommended number of players is 5. Definitely a good addition to my favorite board game edit. I think I somehow just naturally like board game that that play using cards.
After a long long time of longing, I finally got my hand on this game. My first expensive board game. I almost wanted to get it from Decode Cafe which cost about S$ 90+. But luckily, I decide to wait and somehow I stumbled across Bogas, an online board game store. It sells at a much cheaper price. I got it from Bogas at S$ 73. The game is great. So I manage to play it twice only though. I like game art especial their cards.
Anyway, what is Ticket To Ride? It’s a board game playing with a set of cards. Basically the objective of this game is you have to score the most point among all player by building trains across the map on the board. And in order to build trains, you need user a series of cards in your hand. It’s quite simple to learn and play. This can take a long time to finish depending on how familiar the players are with the map and destination cards.
Finally, it’s highly recommended. Replay value may not be very high but once in awhile during your board game night after you’ve cycled through all your game, you can come back to it and it still fun!
After a long long wait it’s finally here. But to my disappointment, it can only be played online!!! There is NO offline mode!! what the fish! My current home net suck. So yeah I don’t think I’ll be collecting any copy on the 15 May launch. Sighh…. sad sad. Don’t know when I get to play it.
