Got to see this in GV Max. One of the very few movies that I ended having to go see alone. The Hunger Games based on the first book of the Hunger Game hit trilogy. Well, I will not babble about the plot summary again since it’s more or less anywhere on the net. I think it’s good but not that good. Why? Because I think it’s very lacking in character and emotional development. Watching the movie is like just watching the series of events in the story with very few connections and understanding of each important character. At least that’s how I felt. Then battle scene where it’s supposedly to be cruel and for life and death felt very abrupt. I’m not sure if they tone it down to lower the viewer rating. Whatever it is, it degrades the movie. I was expecting it to be more thrilling, violent, and heart throbbing. Not that I like violence and stuff it’s just that it’s a Hunger Games so definitely I would be expecting to see people fighting desperately for survival. Yeah I that’s the word I was looking for. Desperation. Not enough of that or it isn’t real enough. Despite all that, I think Jennifer Lawrence did a great job as Katniss. After seeing it, I’d have to agree that only she can be Katniss. This is a big plus point for me because my sole purpose of seeing this movie is her since I already knew that as much as I wanted it to be, the movie can never really be as good as the book. In other word, I’m pretty satisfied with the movie.
Oh and after I have read the book I have another disappointment. Peeta in the movie is quite different from the Peeta I pictured in the book. Not the look but more of the personality and behavior. I’m not sure if Josh Hutcherson misinterpret Peeta’s character or the director purposely made it so but anyhow, the Peeta in the book is definitely better. Nicer and more lovable.
Despite all that, I’m still recommending the movie. It’ll be good if you can read the book before seeing it. The book is great.
